South Downs Project — Locus Design

Locus Design has been appointed to carry out an initial feasibility study for a new contemporary residence located in the heart of the South Downs National Park in West Sussex.

As such, the brief requires a very sensitive and considered approach to the site, being located on the outskirts of a village at the very foot of the South Downs and also within a ‘conservation area’.

The feasibility study proposals explore different options for how the client might best enjoy the site by looking initially at the optimum orientation of indoor and outdoor living spaces towards both sunlight and the magnificent views to the garden and the wider landscape beyond.

As this project develops further, it will need to carefully consider the wide range of challenges set out in the SDNP local plan, as well as our own clients’ aspirations for their future home. This includes the design of a new contemporary and highly sustainable home which is both sensitive to its immediate ‘conservation area’ context as well as the wider natural landscape environment.
